Our Luxury Kelarai Clutches are all one of a kind!
These hand-woven mengkuang (South-East Asian screw pines: family Pandanaceae) pieces are lovingly hand-woven by a 73 year-old weaver in Terengganu. Kelarai is a fine weaving technique which has become increasingly rare, so every piece could be the last piece on earth.
Mengkuang leaves are harvested, dried, dyed, woven into fine mats first and then woven into these clutches. The clutches are finished with the hand-stitched tulang belut (eel spine) technique.
Comes with a heavy brass chain that you can sling around your shoulders - so you have both hands for wine-ing and dining!
